What Kindda Shoes?

This article is forwarded to me by a friend of mine, and actually from The Star Online. Hope you can choose your shoes perfectly according to your outfit~

HIGH IN HEELS

What kind of shoes should I pair Wide Trousers and Narrow pants with

With Wide Trousers, forget flats. Your legs will look drowned in it. Choose instead a wider, stacked heel for a contemporary look . And make sure your shoes are of medium height to high heel. With Narrow Pants, opt for a pair of sexy stilettos. This extends the lines of narrow trousers and makes your legs look longer.

I love miniskirts and always pair them with heels. Somehow I feel uncomfortable wearing heels that are more than 2 inches high when I am in my minis. Am I being overly concerned? Any other advice for skirts of different lengths

Honestly, with mini skirts, you already have enough leg exposed. So, heels that are higher than 2-3 inches can make your overall look tacky. So, you are absolutely right! Opt instead for knee high boots if you are leggy enough.

For skirts that are slightly above the knee or longer, you can opt for heels that are 2-3” high. Conservative pumps with rounded or square toe and a stacked or slightly tapered heel will make you look professional. With long skirts, opt for flat shoes, ballet slippers or backless slide-ons.

My sister has a problem with mixing and matching her shoes, and I can only advice her based on my gut feeling. How do I give her specific rules to follow to minimise her mistakes

Try this simple method: Think Geometry.

Let's say you have an outfit with lots of circular shapes – polka dots, circle lines, etc. Don't go pairing the outfit with a shoe with lots of linear straps. The geometry doesn't match. If you don't have any shoes with a circular accent, then go with the simplest shoe you can find.

If you are wearing something with lines in your outfit, you would want to have something linear in your shoe, as well. Don't go pretty with ribbons and bows.

Look at the heels. Check out the height. If the overall shape of your shoe seems to form a triangle or square appearance from the profile view, it won't blend in with circles.

Rule of thumb? Always match the geometry of your clothing to the geometry of your shoes.

Any quick tips to remember when it comes to balancing my outfit with my shoes

Remember that shoes are an accessory. They can be your focal point, an accent piece, or in some cases, should make no statement at all based on your other accessories. If you decide to go with a fancy shoe, don't go overboard with your accessories. It is a matter of balance. You could wear a simple black dress with the most elaborate heels. Or, if your outfit is really busy, then select a pair of simple shoes - meaning no wild straps, funky buckles, busy designs, etc. How you dress from the earrings down is as important as dressing from the feet up.

Do the types of accessories or the colours on my outfit matter when it comes to choosing shoes

If you have gold earrings, a gold necklace or a gold bracelet on you, it would be better not to have silver accents on your shoes, and vice versa. Your cool-toned clothing should go with black shoes, or anything that is grey, silver, white, etc. Your warm and earth-tone outfits could go toward the browns, tan, beige, ivory, etc. Try not to pair brown shoes with a black outfit, or black shoes with a brown outfit, unless your outfit has a pattern of black or brown.
